About cryptolicit

"Licit" means lawful, permitted. The site answers one question about any crypto business in Europe: is it licit — does it hold the authorisation MiCA requires — and if so, for what, and where.

Why we built it

The answer is public. ESMA publishes it as CSV files that most people will never open, let alone search. Meanwhile the question is asked every day, usually by someone who has already been approached by a "regulated" platform and wants to know whether that word means anything. A register that nobody can read protects nobody; this site is the reading layer.

What it is not

It is not affiliated with ESMA, the European Commission or any national regulator. It does not give financial or legal advice, does not recommend providers and does not accept payment for listings — there is nothing to list; the register is the register. If a page here and ESMA's file disagree, ESMA's file is right and we would like to hear about it.
